About Rayal

The initial idea for RayAl was hatched in 1995 while Ray Wakefield and Alastair McCulloch (RayAl company directors) worked together in clinical diagnostics. At this time the clinical and associated markets such as blood transfusion were going through something of a revolution in testing. Automated systems were now available allowing Elisa tests already in routine use but in a manual format, to be used in an automated fashion and so reduce hands on time and increase efficiency. Laboratory managers and some suppliers immediately saw the potential for this new equipment, which over time has become industry standard.

Although Elisa based tests were then available to the food industry for Salmonella and Listeria, the uptake of these tests was quite slow and in small quantities. There are a number of reasons for this but one of them was the time needed to process tests manually. Ray and Alastair saw the potential for use of the new automated systems but at the time did not receive sufficient support to make it happen and so the idea was dropped. However some years later having each worked for other companies and other business areas, the RayAl idea re-surfaced and soon after the company was born.

Pathogen testing is a challenging and extremely important area within food testing. By using advances in instrumentation combined with our AOAC and AFNOR approved test kits plus industry leading service and support, we can significantly improve efficiency and workflow for our customers. However, although we provide a comprehensive system of equipment, kits and service, we are still able to offer our systems at very competitive pricing, well within the budgets of most routine laboratories.
Now, as well as our systems for Salmonella and Listeria, we are also able to provide test ranges for food allergens, vitamins and mycotoxins allowing us to supply a complete food safety system.

More recently we have successfully taken our system based approach and applied it to supply a range of high quality Elisa and PCR based tests to the veterinary market. This allows us to provide a highly efficient screening system of antibody levels in blood within animal herds and poultry flocks. This is an important area as this work allows animal health to be closely monitored especially where vaccination programs are concerned for organisms such as Salmonella. In addition we have a range of PCR test systems for specific organisms of special importance within the veterinary field.

We are committed to providing our customers with what they want and need based on a number of simple principles:

  • To provide high quality, reliable and easy to use test kits
  • To provide high quality equipment / automation to suit the customers individual demands
  • To provide industry leading service and support
  • To be focussed on and driven by customer requirements
  • To provide competitively priced products
